As the Magician is beginning to reach for the large paneling, he momentarily ducks down behind it, and a hidden assistant dressed as the Magician switches places with him, while he exits thru a trap door and passage way to the rear of the theater...
The fan apparatus has a sliding hidden curtain that slides back at an angle just behind the fan, enclosing the fake Magician and Female Assistant, from where they drop down into a shallow hidden compartment in the floor and remain there... they enter this area thru a slit in the curtain and the light shadow makes it seem that they are passing thru the fan, but they are actually about 15-20 inches away in the hidden area...
